There has to be a better way for sure, it's just fully trusting the government with our healthcare ain't it. THEY are the ones that screwed it up.

The Swedish example is a retarded comparison because we don't compare with Sweeden considering all sorts of metrics.

I dont think its a retarded comparison at all, so who would you compare it to?

I think everyone agrees we have a messed up health care system.

Want to fix it, turn it all off, start over again, but with what do we start it over with?

I Skyped with my Swedish buddy today and over some beers he gave me more detail on their tax. ONLY 5% pays for universal healthcare.

1. They have a capital gains tax of zero. Yes zero.
2. Corporate tax rate is 1.5%. Write offs are very limited.
3. Workers up to $100k pay 8.1% income tax, flat. It goes into the general fund. It goes up from there.
4. Employers pay 31.9% tax on salaries. 5% healthcare, 10% pension of which the employee controls 2.5%, the other 16% pays for the college, subsidized energy and internet, high speed rail, yada yada yada.
5. They have a VAT tax and VERY high gasoline taxes.

Now my buddy knows that Swedes make less because of the high taxation on salaries, thats why he says he’s taxed at 40%. Danes, Finns, and others make more but pay their own health costs and have more college loans.

He said that the horror stories about long queues for care, etc are anomalies. His mom got cancer 3 years ago and had surgery within 10 days of diagnosis and chemo for 8 months. She made a full recovery and paid a total of $120, $60 for each calendar year treatment took place in.

To me, these are interesting things to think about. And no they are not commies, they have free and fair elections with not only photo ID REQUIRED but also thumbprints. No mail in nonsense either. You can get your ballot by mail but if you do you have to take it to the courthouse to turn it in where you are thumb printed and ID checked.

We both agree that the population size of the USA would be the biggest obstacle to single payer here, but we also have the largest economy in the world per capita so the money is there to do it right.

Oh so European like EVERYONE gets 6 weeks PAID vacation a year by law and they are guaranteed to take 30 days a year in one block if they please, by law.

No I don’t want to move there it’s just a conversation.

Population size and overall health. Sweden doesn't have near the diet related problems the United States has, and diet related disease is estimated to account for 80% of the overall healthcare cost in the US. Couple that with the leaky border, which causes our ERs to be turned into primary care for the "uninsured."

One wonders how much more leaky that border would get if they knew they got free healthcare too.

Our demographics don't compare to Sweeden, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc...... there is no other country like us in that terms. So yes it's a retarded comparison because of our size and unhealthy population. People need to think outside the box and not just consider the structure of the healthcare system. It's got to be able to handle the population and what it entails.

Look at the obesity rates by country, the United States is right up there at the top and no other country has anything close to the same population. Sweden is down below with a SIGNIFICANTLY lower rate and is the size of Houston Texas.

Sweden's Taxes - The Hidden Costs of The Welfare State

Sweden is a nation with extraordinary high tax rates. The average worker not only pays 30 percent of her or his income in visible taxes, but, additionally, close to 30 percent in hidden taxes. The defenders of the punishing tax burden argue that it is needed to maintain Sweden’s generous welfare system. While this claim may seem reasonable on its surface, a deeper look suggests that it is based on flawed analysis.

Payroll in Sweden – 2021 Updates

Due to covid-19, the following measures were taken by the Swedish authorities:

Resources to municipalities and regions – municipalities and regions have received considerable resources for additional costs resulting from COVID-19 so as to support the management of deferred health care and to alleviate the consequences of the loss of tax revenue caused by the recession. Funds have also been allocated to strengthen care of older people and to raise staff skills. General government grants have been raised more than local government tax income has decreased.
Financial support to companies and individuals – companies have received financial support to be able to overwinter the crisis and avoid redundancies.
A powerful green restart – includes investments in energy efficiency in multi-dwelling buildings, expanded charging infrastructure for heavy vehicles, earlier railway maintenance, measures to protect valuable nature, a tax reduction for the installation of green technology and circular economy initiatives.
Increased transitioning opportunities – the Swedish government made temporary changes to unemployment insurance, strengthened health insurance, and increased the opportunities of transitioning. The Knowledge Boost has been reinforced by providing more places in education and training that meet society’s needs and giving groups that have difficulty getting established in the labour market better possibilities of supplementing their knowledge and finding jobs.
Fiscal policy has played a greater role than in previous crises
Basic Facts about Payroll in Sweden

Payroll in Sweden involves certain obligations on the part of employers, who should be primarily concerned with observing relevant tax laws. A business’ payroll process must take into account individual income tax, social security contributions, payroll and sales taxes, and withholding tax. Taxes are levied at the national, county, and municipal levels. Setting up payroll requires information from employees, including a

Swedish Tax Identification Number (TIN). Employers also must provide mandated workplace protections. Employees are guaranteed vacation time, maternity and sickness leave, and termination pay, among other services, regardless of their job. Employees must be issued with a payslip every pay-date, and payroll records must be kept for at least 7 years. The tax year in Sweden runs from January 1st through to December 31st. Individual tax returns are due by 2 May of the year following the income year (calendar year).

Taxes

Payments to employees other than regular wages are subject to an income tax withholding rate of 30%. Employees with total annual income of less than SEK 1,000 are not subject to income tax withholding. Non-residents employed in Sweden are taxed a flat rate of 25 percent. Non-Swedish residents employed by non-Swedish firms are exempt from paying any income tax provided they do not spend more than 183 days in Sweden over a 12-month period. Employers withhold income taxes and social insurance contributions using the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) system from employee wages monthly. The income tax accrued as employees are paid by employers (not self-employed) is called the preliminary tax, or A-tax.

Corporate income tax in Sweden is 21.4% since 2019. A decision has also been made to lower the corporate tax rate to 20.6% by 2021.

Anyone want to see welfare at work, and wasted tax dollars just head to wal mart, look at the pajama wearing scooter riding ebt card waving herd that migrates thru.

Get offended or not, its the hard truth we need to face.

Johnson war on poverty that started over 50 years ago has done nothing but breed reliance upon the government.

Health care took a huge nose dive in a already downward spin when obama care came about.

So lets hear the solutions.

Get the government out of it as much as possible, employ transparent model with regards to pricing, let the free market work, and the population is going to have to understand there's an amount of personal responsibility with regards to preventable disease.
