Don't know the time frame when he got the gun vs his arrest for drugs. He had not gone to trial on that case yet. The Kelly file program is interviewing Dr. Park Dietz, Dr. of Forensic Psychology and the founder of the Threat Assessment Group, (named one of the top 25 people in the security industry) He is saying the problem with mass shootings is that the press is giving them notoriety, and that's what they crave to do these shootings. According to Dr. Dietz, "Hinkley shot Regan because he wanted on the cover of time magazine." From that time on, these crimes create copy cats by people wanting notoriety, fame and attention. Rewarding that action is bad and encourages that type of behavior". So the conundrum is where does the news media draw the line in sensationalism reporting or reporting the facts of the shooting and then dropping the issue. Dr Dietz position is that the local media needs to handle this with all the details for the community becoming forthright because they are in the community and deserve to know the details. Beyond the local region/community, nothing good can come from naming the shooter, giving biographical details about the shooter, which makes the shooter into a pseudo rock star by giving dramatic retellings of their life story. Just an example and I know some will disagree with it, but the Ponca City News never publishes big stories of gang violence by calling it gang violence. Hell yes we have them here, but the newspaper and local radio station see a crime and call it a crime, and don't enhance the crime by calling it gang violence. They list the criminals by name, and don't point out they are members or not member of a gang.
