The holsters are highly specific as well,,,
Usually lined with thin sheet metal,,,
To hold the bucket wide open.

I made a few for members of a club in Riverside, California.

Completely impractical for any other use.

Anyone know what the best entry level gun might be?

Most of the shooters I knew used Ruger Vaqueros,,,
I did see a few Italian imports being used,,,
I personally never saw a Colt in use.

All of the actions are finely tuned for smoothness,,,
And to be able to withstand the "fanning" style of shooting.

But I think anyone who has ever owned a single-action revolver,,,
Has tried it at least once or twice in their lifetime,,,
I know I did as a kid with a Colt Frontier Scout.

I stopped when I blew a chunk out of the edge of my shoe,,,
1/8th of an inch away from shooting my right little toe.

It's a shooting game built around a fantasy,,,
I can't even call it a sport,,,
But that's just me.

Aarond.

P.S. Back in their day, Sammie Davis Jr. and Jerry Lewis,,,
Were two of the fastest quick-draw competitors,,,
At one national level tournament back east,,,
Sammy won 1st, Jerry was 2nd place.

Is this the same as the cowboy action shooting? We have a western town at Red Castle for that.

Nope,,,
Cowboy action shooting is primarily through,,,
SASS - Single Action Shooters Society.

Back when I was a SASS member,,,
The bosses stayed as far away from quick draw as they could.

They even start all their shooting stages with the gun in hand,,,
Anything to reduce the urge to do a quick draw for time.

At least that's how it was 20-ish years ago.

I am a member of Cowboy Fast Draw Association for three years now. The problem is I live in Woodward Oklahoma and the nearest club to me is 175 miles in Amarillo Texas. We do have two clubs in Oklahoma (Davis & Mansford). Would like to know if we were to get a club around here, how many would be interested?
A friend of mine has been asking me about Fast Draw competitions. I asked three people that should k ow about that stuff at OKCGC, and got a vigorous head shake, a 'OH Hell No', and a 'what?'.

I'm thinking OKCGC is a no-go.

But my friend still wants to try it.

I attended a big quick draw match in So-Cal back in the mid 90's,,,
If they were using real ammunition instead of those wax & primer loads,,,
There would have been a steady stream of ambulances carting off the wounded.

Of course if a quick-draw competitor did shoot himself,,,
He (or she) was immediately disqualified.

Before that stroke, Randy Travis was a big quick draw participant.

Glenn Ford was known as "The Fastest GUN Alive"
