Ran into an Iraqi Colonel that was like this guy. We were at a position where one of his companies (he was Bn CO) and our MTT were occupying and we started taking mortars. The first shell hit and he calmly says in perfect English that it's mortars. And then more, and he just keeps smoking his cigarette and drinking coffee calmly. If only the Iraqi army had more officers like him, I'd be willing to bet IS would not be a problem.

WTF ever happened to the Elite Republican Guard, and the others that fought Iran for 20 some years? They gassed each other, fought, and died.

We gave the Iraq Army the best equipment and trained them for how many years, and our gubberment says they threw their weapons down and deserted when ICIS showed up?? WTF?

ICIS found them and executed them in their civvy's. WTF?

True, he's a badass. My guess is he's simply very battle hardened and has the kind of personality and mindset that predisposes him to being a very good combat soldier. Also, looks like he has been at it long enough that his swagger has been aged into war weariness and cynicism.

I don't know how to explain it, but its a normal reaction to battle hardened soldiers in constant combat. Your brain, your ears, tell you when one is getting close. You get acclimated to the explosions. They are part of your world, and you learn to live with them.
That's all I've got to say.

Agree ........

Story time

So we just got off bird and we wear moving are gear to are chu's. BOOM BOOM BOOM all the newbies hit the ground or run for the bunkers. I started laughing my @ss off. It was ARE howitzer (M119 i think )!!! :laugh6:
