For all you other woodworkers out there!

[Perplexed]

My sister has a stack of tongue-and-groove planks of this unknown wood that has sat in a dry cellar at her place some 20 years. The planks were used as a kind of ship lap in a room in her house, and were removed during a renovation at that time and saved. The planks are about 90” long, 6” wide, and 3/4” thick, and are of a medium density though it’s possible they dried out a lot during storage. We have a tentative identification, though I’m not certain as I’ve not seen any known good examples of the possible species. What do you folks think it is? BTW, the worm holes were part of the planks as installed. It’s not termite damage in the house

I'm gonna guess Cyprus. It has a nice tight grain and appears to machine well.

This. Definitely old growth pine. Could be doug fir. That tight grain is what makes those old stick-built houses so dang strong. They sure don't grow trees like this anymore.

I'm gonna stick with my Cyprus guess due to its redish brown hue on the end grain.

It's gum wood. It was used under plaster instead of lath.

Doug Fir. scratch the end and see what it smells like

Can't say a specific species, but it's 100% pine. Could be southern yellow pine looking at that last pic. Drive a nail in it. If it's really difficult it's SYP.
