How much below MSRP should one expect to buy a new Pick-up?

Funny that you said that I end up buying a TOYOTA Tacoma. I did pay MSRP. I saw used Tacoma 1 or 2 year older and 30,000 plus miles going for about the same monies that I pay for a new one.
Tacoma's have kind of always been like that. Tacoma's and wranglers sometimes. I got a good deal on one new Tacoma and sold it a year later for the same price late 2000s.

Toyota did a great job managing their production and inventory, so they didn’t get caught off balance during Covid, like many other car makers. They’re currently one of the few makers still getting MSRP or more across the board, which is unfortunate since I’m saving up for a Tacoma myself.

I help buy cars for my family and some of my friends. This is what I tell them now.
1. Shop online. Print, or screen shot the online prices and call them to commit to that price on the phone.
Don't go to the lot to look. Make them work to get you to the lot and stand firm on what you will pay.

2. Don't tell them that you plan on trading in. Wait and tell them after the price is firm on the truck.
Get buy offers on your trade, before you go. Carmax, Carvana, others. Make them at least match, or don't let them have it.

3. Do not tell them that you have a down payment, or how much. They don't need to know until it's time to make the actual transaction.

4. When they ask you about financing, just tell them that you are not worried about that, just want the price of the truck.

5. Don't give them your SS#, or let them do a credit check. No, they don't have to.

6. Make sure that you have your own bank financing lined up. Make them beat your bank. Most dealerships will add 2% to the interest rate to make even more money off of you. This is why you do not talk financing.

You can take this or leave it.
I bought our last 2021 like this. All talk and BS was completed VIA email. Price was negotiated prior to driving up and test driving. We were at the car lot for an hour, completing paperwork and driving home. I did give them my SS# to see what deal they were offering. Our credit union was offering 3.9%, but the dealer offered us .9%.

I go to a dealership, build the vehicle I want on paper, get their price and then go online with every dealership in Oklahoma, North Tx and Missouri to see if they will deal on the price.
My 2020 F-250, was quoted at MSRP. Two weeks later, I had $4000 off and went back to my local dealer. He said he would match, but that's not how deals are done. Told him to beat it or lose it, so he came off $500. Deal was done.
Two times in the dealership to get quote, then one time back in to sign papers, and write them a check.

I been looking at Toyota 4 runners. Similar features to a Tacoma without a truck bed. I'n very impressed with what I have found.
The current 5th gen are bulletproof, albeit not a powerhouse nor a fuel saver. I’ve got a ‘21 I bought new and only selling it to buy a 3rd row SUV. I bought it specifically because it’s the most reliable vehicle Toyota makes, and has been in production since 2010 so there’s excellent aftermarket and parts availability, as well as an older more reliable drivetrain compared to the new junk Toyota is building.

Not sure on pick-ups, but there are smoking deals on Jeep Wranglers especially the Gladiators. I want one, don't need one but David Stanley and Joe Cooper listed to me over 20% off. Three years ago it was MSRP plus $3,000.

Would like a Gladiator and start doing some overlanding in Oklahoma. Anybody here doing that with a Jeep?

Bought my wife a new Chevy truck in 2022. Wanted to pay cash but got a better deal to finance. GM at dealership asked me to wait 6 months before paying it off.
