PSA Jakl has a long stroke gas piston and uses regular lowers, you need to buy their adapter for it though. F5 makes a SCAR lookalike stock for it too that it supposed be pretty kick ass if you're into folding stocks.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. So far some of the ideas you've given me are close to what I am looking for but not quite there. It's beginning to sound like what I want doesn't exist. The JAKL with the Sig MCX collapsible stock might be as close as I will get.

From what little research I did on the subject after you posted yesterday I think you are correct. The Jakl upper was the first thing I thought of but I couldn't find one set up with the stock that you are wanting.

Good luck and keep us posted.

What @rc508pir said
All in all, the Sig Rattler (or what ever the eff they call it) is pretty much what youre discribing
Or some other Sig nonbuffer pistol/SBR.

Gas piston doesn't mean there's no buffer, it just means a heavier and more complicated operating system that functions differently. You want the recoil system in the upper which is what Sig does, they just happen to use gas piston operating systems.

Also with the Jakl, you cannot swap out for a shorter barrel, at least not easily as it’s riveted to a trunnion.

Stock options are limited as most will use the buffer tube for support. So you can use a shorter buffer tube using the DFA option listed below, and there are seveal others. You can also go MPX stock and and a picatinny adapter that replaces the buffer tube. You can then use a BRN180, JKL upper or any short barreled piston driven upper like the Adams Arms. LAW Tactical makes a modified bolt that lets you run any upper you want with no buffer. Evolution Systems does too but its backordered.
