Interesting idea, but why .32 H&R instead of .327 Federal?
Don't know that a J Frame can handle the pressure of the .327 mag. It's a stout little round and a bear to shoot in little guns like this. Taurus did go that way but it's a bit bigger gun. Also, not going to get that much more than the H&R round out that short barrel anyway. ETA: I don't see it as a great loss being chambered for H&R.Interesting idea, but why .32 H&R instead of .327 Federal?
It can! S&W has already chambered the 327 in a j-frame. The Model 632 Carry Comp!Don't know that a J Frame can handle the pressure of the .327 mag. Not an Airweight, that's a steel frame. In an Airweight that thing would beat itself apart inside of 500 rounds. .357s are the same. Even K frames won't hang with a steady diet of the .357 and the .327 is even higher pressure, but just barely. Both are higher than a .30 Carbine round, so pretty stout. It would be a great little lever gun round for funsies! It can! S&W has already chambered the 327 in a j-frame. The Model 632 Carry Comp!
And I agree, the 327 is kind of a waste in a snub.
Think of the 327 kinda like a rimmed 30 carbine.
Every once in a while some of us finds a cartridge that just finds a special place in our heart, and for me the 32 h&r magnum did that!
The 340 and 360 are airweights in 357 mag, can take full house loads no problem. Not an Airweight, that's a steel frame. chamber length maybe?A little math comparison for the compatibility of a 327 federal in a airweight S&w for the nay sayers!
So we know S&w chambers the 357 magnum in the models 360 and 340.
357 magnum maximum rated chamber pressure 35,000 psi
Rim diameter .440"
Surface area of rim .152053 sq in
Reward thrust potential of the case to the frame 5321 pounds
327 federal maximum rated chamber pressure 45,000 psi
Rim diameter .375"
Surface area of rim .110447 sq in
Reward thrust potential of the case to the frame 4970 pounds
Ps,
The 30 carbine maximum chamber pressure is in the middle @ 40,000 psi
