The problem is the space outside of garage door not big enough for the car to back out of completely before I have to turn the steering wheel. ( side entry garages see the"art work " in first post)

The wall or post separating the bays is load bearing. You can not move it.
Solution, park 1 car outside or move
Have you tried backing in?
Pour 2" of concrete in that bay. Might look odd but might not look as odd as having the 2x10 boards around it.
Yes, backing in work for the single car bay. But only work on the SUV because of the 3" lid.
And sometimes when my wife was driving the SUV then she can't back it in.
