One day, thinking that the cowboys were all off on a cattle drive, a young schoolmarm decided to go for a swim in a pond at a local ranch. She neatly stacked her clothes on the bank, then got in the water and began swimming, naked as the day she was born.
Before long, a cowboy who hadn't gone on the drive wandered by the pond. Seeing the schoolmarm, he decided to have a bit of fun, and went over and sat down next to her clothes.
Indignant, the schoolmarm told the cowboy, in no uncertain terms, to leave, but he allowed that he was quite comfortable where he was, and had no intention of leaving.
She tried various different tactics, all to no avail--the cowboy remained seated next to her clothes.
Finally, she looked around and saw an old washtub sitting in the water near the shore, so she snatched it up, and, holding it in front of her, marched out of the water and up to the cowboy.
"Young man," she fumed, "do you have any idea what I'm thinking?"
"Yes, ma'am," he replied, "I know exactly what you're thinking.
"You're thinking that washtub has a bottom."
