I've never had to form brass. I was given a hundred pieces of .300 Savage brass by someone who just knew I have a Savage and reload. My 99A is chambered in .250 but I didn't say anything because her heart is in the right place. Plus, you can't get un-fired .250 Savage brass and even the .300 Savage seems to be pretty scarce. I think I can use it since I already have an RCBS sizing die.

What should I keep in mind when forming? I assume I will need to trim the .300 Savage brass after I have sized it? Case lube or sizing wax? Anything else important?

Or should I hang on to it and see if there is someone out there that wants to trade?

Use good lube, but not too much. (Will dent brass, but still can used)

Go SLOW

Trim and anneal

Should be easy

I have formed / resized many calibers into others.

Many thanks. I've seen it done, but never gotten into it. lube the inside and outside of the case mouth?

Also, should I think about investing in a single stage press or should my turret press hold up to the extra force I assume I'll be applying.

I use Hornady Unique case lube.

NO need for a single stage. Use this lube or Imperial sizing die wax.

Inside of case mouth can be lubed with a Qtip you have swirled in the case lube.
1 swirl should do 10-15 cases easily. It does not take much.

Use it on the outside of the case also. I apply it with my thumb and 2 fingers .. again not much needed.

Not really a difficult thing.
Lube 1 and try it and then go from there.

Dirty cases or carbon inside the case necks add resistance.
I like to brush all my case necks inside with a spinning nylon bore brush before sizing.
They size much easier after that step.

Inside mouth lube shouldn't be necessary. Very light lube won't hurt.
Like swampratt said, q-tip and a spin.

Turret press should be OK. I have done all of mine on a Rock Chucker.
