It will be fine for 300 yards if you use supersonic ammo. Most of the stuff you read about is using subsonic ammo. If you weren't a KU fan, I would offer to help you put it together!

Out of a 16" Barrel, the Remington 123gr Ammunition gives these numbers:
2315 fps / 1462 ft lbs
23% more power than a 5.56mm, 6% over a 7.62x39 (123gr Win)
6% not worth it! Get the 7.62x39 in 20" and my guess would that 6% would go away. CHEAP AMMO!
Buy this kit and sell the stock and lpk for $100

Well, I appreciate it. I will keep this thread saved, and if/when I decide to pull the trigger on it, I might just have to hit you up. Thanks for the help.

I would recomend buying the best new or used bolt action hunting rifle you can afford.

This isn't a bad suggestion. You can pick up a like new Savage for $300-400. Also I've seen 6.8 SPC uppers on here several times in the same range. I'd take the 6.8 over the .300. The velocity is going to be much higher giving a flatter shooting round. The Grendel is my #1 choice, but I understand the budget issue.
