We took my son several years ago. I think he was 10 at the time and got to shoot a minigun, AK47, and one shot from a Barrett .50cal. The husband of a lady I met through O&G is a gunsmith that specializes in machine guns of WW2 era and older. He let us fire a couple of older water cooled machine guns that were a ton of fun as well.
If there is plenty of rain where fire isnt a concern, it is absolutely worth the drive. If it is really dry, there will be a lot of breaks for them to go put out small fires from tracers and sparks before they get out of hand. The two times I have been, I don't recall ever having even the briefest thought of danger due to muzzle sweeps or people not being well attended while shooting. It is a very well run event and I wouldnt hesitate to return with my kids and wife.
