Wimberley, TX was a nice place 10 years ago I haven't been back but when I stayed there is was nice, I was there for about week for work because I didn't want to stay in the bigger towns.
Lol, Wimberly is were all the old retired Hippies are now. When my wife was working for a neurosurgeon and people would fail a THC screen before getting more pain meds, they were almost always old retirees from Wimberly. It became a running joke.
Do you really want to be directly between Austin and San Antonio? Personally, I would NOT. Most of the people around there live there because of work, and it's the best compromise for them in terms of location. Austin, then Buda, then Kyle, then San Marcos. There will be commuters all the way to San Marcos.
If you didn't need to be in the rat race every morning, I'd go West. How close you want/need to be to Austin will dictate a lot of things. I'd be out West too if it wouldn't make me hate my life every morning and afternoon getting to/from work. Lago vista was on the table for awhile, but I just couldn't stomach the drive. I like Jonestown, but it's tiny and very little going on. I'd also love to be in Burnet, but that's WAY too far to be commuting every day.
Lots of people do the same, but South. Bee caves, dripping springs, etc. Those are South West and still affordable. As you approach Lake Travis from the South (Lakeway, etc), you better be a millionaire, so those are usually out for most folks.
