Question about taxes???

We have always done our own taxes but recently we have learned that we might be missing out on some tax saving opportunities, so we're thinking of paying a professional this year. I am relatively sure that I saw a thread where someone asked for CPA/Tax Person recommendations but my searching skills are weak and I can't find that thread anywhere. So...

1. Can you recommend a knowledgeable, experienced tax professional in the OKC metro area?

2. Can anybody scare up the old thread so I can read the previous recommendations?

Our taxes shouldn't be too tough, we aren't self employed or small business owners or anything like that. But my wife is a school teacher and some of her co-workers have mentioned deductions and such that we haven't previously claimed so we just want to pay a pro that can look our situation and say "Yeah, you have a handle on it. " or "Nope, you guys are missing out and this is why you should be paying me to do your taxes...".

The issue you describe is what he does everyday. Super nice guy, very polite, even this time of year makes you seem like a valued customer - not just another return for him to process.

I know, I feel like a doofus for requesting this sort of assistance right now when I'm sure everyone that is any good is SWAMPED. But you know how it is, you forget that you need wipers until it rains. Same deal, we forget about these concerns until it's that time of the year.

I use taxslayer, it has walkthroughs for beginners who want to catch all deductions.

We have always used TaxAct and been pleased with the results. To be completely honest, I don't see how we could be missing anything - the software is very thorough and they keep us informed as to when they new versions have been updated for the following year's taxes. But like I said you here people talking... "My tax guy says you should be claiming "this" and I'm thinking to myself "Where? I didn't see a spot for that." So at least once I'd like to pay somebody that does it for a career to see if I feel like their expertise is worth the expense and to make sure I'm not missing anything. It seems to me there has to be a reason that in spite of the fact that there are a dozen places to do your taxes for under $50 on the internet, there are still intelligent people taking their taxes to a specialist and paying them $100-$200 to take care of them.

I'm a big fan of turbo tax as well. Used it the last 5 years. It's nice because it pulls all the info from last years returns.

TaxAct does that too, e-filing programs have come a long way and they are very easy to use. But I am looking for a pro, not a computer program or web-based service. That's why I'm looking for an individual with an established business - those kiosks at H&R Block and the like just do the same thing that the rest of us do by entering info into a programs that walk them through Q&A. I knew a couple guys in college that got jobs doing taxes at one of those places that only pops up at tax time and while they were good guys, I wouldn't have let these guys write a paper for me in college - much less do my taxes. If you are going to efile, there is no question you should do it yourself.

I am a TurboTax user but apparently Intuit doesn't share my views on the second amendment...so I don't share my money with them.
