First question, how many acres do you have available to you? Secondly, good grass for lease is more rare than a clean hooker in a whore house and buying land will be very difficult to make work financially. Thirdly the timing now is about as bad as it gets. Bred cows are still pretty damn high for the current market, especially for fancy ones. Looking around $2,000 for the momma cow and the market right now only wants to give about $1,000 for an 800-900 lb calf. Unless you've got wheat pasture or a lot of grass, you will not get them that big. So figure on maybe getting $800 for a calf. I've heard that if you figure all your expenses that it costs around $400 per year to feed and care for a cow so it'll take approximately 5 years to get that cow paid for. After which you might get 2-3 calves profit till its time to replace the cow. Money making deal I tell you. Sorry to Debbie down you but the Ag economy is garbage right now.
