I visit the berm at our range occasionally seeing the same stuff you did, but one day there was a huge lead bullet perfectly mushroomed that had to be from a classic .60 or .72 caliber.

I used to know someone who went investigating the berms at Tri-City when he was alone there. I think the most interesting thing he found was a dummy round (from a bazooka, or maybe a rifle grenade?) left over from its time as a Nat'l Guard training range, but he said people do shoot lots of interesting ammo there.
