I can see exactly how this would take off on it's own and Te'o not be able to control it. The media just foams at the mouth for these touchy-feeley stories, it's like they get their rocks off on them. They probably heard it second hand and went off to the races with it.

A friend of mine thinks that the entire story was cooked up to cover up the fact that Manti Te'O and Ronaiah Tuiasosopo were lovers. Not that I give two poops anyway, but interesting theory.
