The US just bombed Yemen, and no one's talking about it

We need answers from the candidates on how they would deal with a deadly conflict in one of the Middle East’s poorest countries. We’re not getting them

Fire and smoke rise after a Saudi-led airstrike hit a site believed to be one of the largest weapons depots on the outskirts of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Friday.
Saturday 15 October 2016

What if the United States went to war and nobody here even noticed? The question is absurd, isn’t it? And yet, this almost perfectly describes what actually happened this past week.

While many Americans, myself included, were all hypnotized by the bizarre spectacle of the Republican nominee for president, a US navy destroyer fired a barrage of cruise missiles at three radar sites controlled by the rebel Houthi movement in Yemen. This attack marked the first time the US has fought the rebels directly in Yemen’s devastating civil war.

The Trump show has managed to bump all serious and necessary policy debates not just off the table but out of the room

The cruise missile salvo ramps up the already significant US military involvement in deeply divided and desperately poor Yemen. While it’s true that the US has launched drone strikes on al-Qaida targets in Yemen for years, sometimes killing civilians and even US citizens, this particular military engagement has the potential to drag the US straight into a protracted and escalating conflict. And, as everyone knows, America has an uncanny ability to enter protracted and escalating military conflicts.

Yet we’ve heard absolutely nothing about this from our presidential candidates.

Saudi led.....who knows if we were involved in the least..........sarcasm......

I do agree with the premise that the Trump show is giving a tremendously wide berth to the candidates in terms of policy and real world issues.

Some of which, at least one of them precipitated....

Way too much space and a tremendous lack of interest, but that was apparently, the plan from the git go....

Iraq Launches Military Offensive To Retake Mosul From ISIS; Up To 1 Million Refugees Expected

Moments ago, Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi publicly announced the start of an offensive to retake Mosul, the capital of Islamic State's caliphate in Iraq. "The hour has come and the moment of great victory is near," he said in a speech on state TV, "I announce today the start of the operation to liberate the province of Nineveh." US troops are said to be playing a "supporting role" in the offensive.

Saw that on the news this evening. Lets hope the training the US has provided will keep our folks out of harms way. They already took Mosul. Obama gave it back.

I wonder how many tax dollars were given to the Saudi Royal family to get Involved? Usually they won't attack fellow Muslims but perhaps this ISIS thing has them concerned plus the family may be overthrown somehow if things continued. The entire Mideast is in turmoil due to Ghadafi, Hussain and Mubarak being taken out by the encouragement of this administration and Putin doesn't want Hillary to be presidenthe because there is bad blood between then because she tried to weaken his rule by dealing with Medevdev instead of Putin. Plus, she tried a "Moscow Spring" and it failed which was good considering the problems created by Arab Spring.
And Soros is in the mix of "nation building" as well as Hillary's presidential campaign so there are a lot of problems that need to be addressed. And one wonders how much Putin knows about the State Department and this administration...how did he come to know?
