If people are willing to pay the price of the product, the answer is 'Yes', that's my idea of free market. If you don't want to pay the asking price for a product then don't. That keeps you happy and it gives someone else the opportunity to purchase that product.

Is having the government control over pricing your idea of a free market?

Why is it so many are always screaming about getting government out of their lives but think price controls are OK? You're either for limited government or you're not.

Not when plywood, building materials, roofing, etc goes up locally right after a tornado. That is my definition of price gouging.

No... That's supply and demand. Items are in great demand and supplies are short so the price goes up. It's how a free market works.

Within hours of the 911 bombing,,,
All of the gas stations around my home raised their prices.

From under a buck per gallon,,,
To over 4 bucks per gallon.

Is this your example of a "free market"?

Nope, at the time I lived in Kellyville,,,
Just a bit outside of Sapulpa.

I drove to Okmulgee Tech that morning and almost stopped to fill my tank,,,
But I was running late so I decided to wait for the return trip.

Gas at the little mini-mart was 87 cents per gallon that morning,,,
By 3:00 that afternoon the price was an even $4.00 per gallon.

Cost me just under $50.00 to fill my tank,,,
It should have been around $12.00.

Pure greed is what that was,,,
Inexcusable.
