I have an old surplus roof rack from a police crown Vic. Stuck it my old 02 Dakota. It’s basically just a padded shelf that has a Velcro strap. My AR and 18” shotguns will fit in it. I really like it. Keeps the gun up and out of sight, out of the way but handy.
I had two different kind in HS. One that replaced the sun visors and turned into a fantastic shelf for things other than a rifle, and one that held to that bolted to area above your head. That one wasn't very practical either imo.
