You can usually find 440-round tins of 7.62x54R at TK Supply, downtown Tulsa.

I don't guess anyone has seen any for sale in the Tulsa area lately have you? I've found tons of dealers online that have them, and plenty cheap at that, but I'd much rather skip the hassle and expense of shipping if at all possible.

If you can wait a month, you can find them at the Wanenmacher show at the Expo. Usually there will be at least one dealer selling a crate of 91/30's, so if you get there early enough, you can pick out the best one of the bunch. Otherwise, you'll see quite a few for sale scattered throughout the show. Just look for the rifles with which you could do a pole vault

As far as cleaning them, I always clean all of my guns thoroughly right after shooting. I never put a gun away dirty, so that's not a problem at all.

You do understand they are talking about corrosive ammo?
It's not like cleaning your regular guns.

Back when my dad was into this sort of thing, we used to clean the guns first with glass cleaner then after that follow it up with regular solvent & oil as you would with any gun. Is this still the accepted practice or have things gotten more sophisticated since the '80s?

You guys are doing a pretty bad job of talking me out of getting one of these. I guess I'm going to have to hunt one down.

With corrosive ammo, standard cleaning methods sometimes are not adequate. There is more than one way, and be sure you use one of the approved methods. CB

i've had a bunch of mosins from the 1891's to the 91-59, they are good guns, the russians made 15 million 91-30's. www.7.62x54r.net is a good site to check out for mosinitis

Also, can we discuss the cleaning of the corrosive ammo some more?
