Hot water heater disposal?

Is it worth taking it to be recycled? What scrap yard do i take it to in OKC? Its a 7 year old unit. I did a search and didnt come up with any good info.

You don't get much if any at all for a single heater. If you take the heater in they will weigh it as scrap steel. And it's not worth separating the metals as there is very little copper, aluminum, or brass in relation to the steel. BTW, they know how much an empty heater weighs, so sediment in the tank won't count.

They are much more fun to shoot! 1 used water heater and 3-4 boxes of 12 gauge = a lot of fun!

dads a plumber, he changes out enough a year to make me think if there was any money in the things he would have stopped hauling them to the dump a long time ago. pull the brass valves and copper lines off the thing if it has any one save those for scrap (if you think you will come across enough to make it worth scrapping even those materials). then take the tank to the dump, or do something creative to the tank is my advice, like shooting it.
