I posted hear earlier about which one of my none hunting rifles would be best for hunting, I decided to go with the ar-15. But recetly i picked up my .45 osprey supressor, which will work on a 10mm. So im debating if i should buy a g20 for hunting. I was thinking a g20 with a aftermarket 6" barrel with a rmr sight on it. Has anybody used a g20 for hunting before? Would you recomened it for someone who has never hunted? What were the results? Or should i just stick with the ar-15. Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

For somebody that's never been hunting, I would suggest a hunting rifle. A bolt gun would be your best bet, some prefer lever actions. Personally, I wouldn't take a Glock or an AR hunting, though I do recognize that a properly outfitted AR can be an effective varmint gun.

8 million dead humans, and still counting take the AR out of the "varmint" gun class.
Personally I've killed over a dozen deer with my AR. Proper bullet placement, and the correct bullet will take them down quickly.

What .45 do you have? and why not just use it?

I have a fnp tactical. Is. 45 acp enough to bring down a deer?
Hunting white tail.
I want to get a decent. 308/ 30-06 rifle in the future but just not yet.
Guess ill stick with the ar.

@dennishoddy what brand of ammo do you use/ recommend?

A .45ACP will put down a deer if your placement is right and if the shot is within it's range. The .45 is a slow bullet but it packs plenty of energy. I think it would be comparable to a muzzleloader with better expansion. The problem with a handgun is accuracy out to certain distances. With my skill level, I can't ethically shoot at a deer with a handgun more than 50yds or so. Also, what is the legal capacity of hunting with a handgun? I've thought about the very same scenario. With the suppressor bill all but being a done deal, it might be nice to try handgun hunting at close distances.

When I do hunt I will be doing it at a pretty close distance, if I do use a hand gun it will be within 50 yards, and ar would be at 100 yards Max, that's what I've been practicing at.

I've killed two deer with a stainless kimber target II, using .45 cal 185 grain Speer Gold dots handloaded with a maximum charge of Unique. Both taken from a tree stand at about 10 yards. One dropped instantly, the other made it 35 yards.

For AR load in .223 I've been loading the Hornady 55 grain GMX lately, but earlier on the first couple of deer I used factory Rem 55 grain soft points. They all died within 40-50 yds. All were double lung shots.

Yeah, to echo what others have already said, I would say you have plenty of gun in either flavor, so no need to rush out and buy a 10mm unless you just want to. Know your limits, and those of the tools you use, and you will be golden.
