Those calling for his immediate execution miss the need to question him to find out why a 24 y/o with nothing but a traffic ticket would go on a well planned mass killing spree.

Could you explain to me why it matters? Maybe if he had a "good reason" for doing this he shouldn't be hanged? Maybe he could be rehabilitated? Are you kidding me? Come on.

Not to get too deep into "what if" but body armor doesn't negate impact right? If somebody had the opportunity to put a round in his chest armor he is still going to feel a serious impact that would put him down or off balance allowing one to close the distance for follow up shots wouldn't it? Is there really armor so sophisticated that a man can just stand there & absorb gunfire? I've never heard of it, but body armor is something I know zilch about so maybe I just don't know about it.

And regarding calling for immediate execution, I can see my first post being interpreted that way & that's not what I meant. What I meant was in these scenarios it seems being taken down in a hail of gunfire is part of the shooter's vision. It is BIZARRE to me that he would've just surrendered himself after an attack like that. I know we lack details but the way they are reporting it sounds like law enforecment confronted him out back in a parking lot & he just accepted arrest.

It depends entirely on the type of armor. If it's level IIA, you'll suffer a nasty surface wound unless the round strikes the trauma plate. If it's level IV armor, you could take a direct hit from a .308 with negligible effect. I've seen video of a guy taking a round from a .308 at point blank range while standing on one foot. He didn't even lose his balance.

As for this dirtbag, I think he should be relegated to a science experiment for the remainder of his sorry life. :pissed:

I don't think redmax is saying we need to see if he had a good reason. I also don't think rehabilitation is what he is intending either. Are none of you curious as to why someone would be motivated to commit such an act? Sure, murders occur hourly. However, most murders do not *appear* to be random. Knowledge of motivation allows us to see if something, if anything, could have prevented this act. Who knows why he did it. I, for one, would like to know why. If only because I am curious as to what would make a person want to kill, indiscriminately.

^^^This, how does one go from a speeding ticket to mass murder ? Hell yes he needs to be executed. He will get justice like Jeffrey Dahmer did if not at the hands of the state.

That borders on miraculous and I had no idea such a thing existed. I simply can't comprehend how it is capable of distributing that much velocity, especially when it's delivered in such a small package.

Well a ceramic plate that measures 9X14" will distribute that energy over it's entire surface. Plus, they're heavy. Early level IV vests were multiple interconnected plates. These days, they're single plates.

I should point out that 80's era flak jackets were designed for stopping shrapnel, not bullets.

Just heard it on the Michael Berry show on KTRH Houston. It may be true, it may not. I don't really care what his political leanings are or if he was in with the wrong crowd, I just hope he is tried and fried.

Which begs the question of "how"?

A witness who spoke this morning on NBC via phone said that someone sitting next to him before the show began had gone to that emergency exit and opened it to make a phone call, which he'd found very odd (to open an emergency exit to make a phone call).

So, could have been not closed completely after that, or there could have been an accomplice.
