Thinking about relocating to New Zealand, NOT Australia

Been looking at NZ and I cant find one reason that wouldnt be a great place to live. Not just because of this election and all the political schit here in good ol USA but that is part of it.
I want a change and this seem crazy but WTF? Why not? Do they allow weed there? I cant find that but after reading about MM in other states being a thing, I am curious?
The cuisine, wine, mountains, guns, oceans, lifestyle, no Muslim presence...I cant find a negative? Surely there is a negative other than no wanamacher shows?

I seem to recall that NZ won't let you move there without first proving that you aren't a freeloader. You do this by deposting several hundred thousand dollars in a NZ bank.

You might want to verify whether this is true or just another internet rumor.

While their gun laws are more regimented, they didn't appear onerous. I've been told by a family member that once looked at immigrating there that you're more likely to get an opportunity to immigrate there if you're skilled labor. I don't know how true that is, but that's what they found when doing their research. Personally, from what little I know I think it would be a pretty awesome place to live.

So you'd leave the US because there might be some future gun restrictions to go to a place that already has somewhat stricter laws (including a practical restriction on"assault weapons") and also to avoid encroaching US nanny-state laws to a country that is already much more of a European-style nanny state than the US?


There must be some other reasons too? Are you also implicitly renouncing your US citizenship?

Nah, maybe a midlife crisis deal. My wife split, I am bored with my job and this country in general, especially tired of folks like the previous poster. Just lookin for change and I have been over most all the lower 48. I hate winter, I hate 109* summers, tornado season, this government we cant shake and a list of other ****. Time fora change before I get too old. Its a bucket list item I recently added, Live elsewhere and prosper.

Yes looking at their immigration rules, I have a working skill (designing roadways and transportation developement) that would get me qualified.
