trying to rationalize how two wrongs make a right.

The gun community should be harder on this guy than anyone else because he realized the worst fear of every anti-gun, anti-castle doctrine person out there.

Yes, he was right to defend himself, but he was wrong to murder.

The forensic evidence would have doomed this guy even if he would have remained silent, and rightfully so. Whatever thieving, drug-addicted monsters these two young adults were, the shooter became the greater monster in the end.

Haven't read all the posts to this point; don't need to. This guy is either a fruitcake or just evil. He needs to be put away.

Disagree. He should get the punishment and criticism that he earned, nothing more and nothing less.

Maybe i misspoke a bit. I don't think the gun community can do anything more than the law can to punish him. However, i do think the gun community needs to be the most vocal about his mistakes to show that he is the exception and not the rule when it comes to gun owners. Rationalizing his actions (post defending himself) only serves to give the anti-gun crowd ground to stand on.

I am certainly not justifying the coup de gras, that is, as has been stated, where the guy gets in trouble. I wouldn't do that myself, I have better control over my actions than that. I will say that if I feel like the threat is not absolutely 100% contained, I don't stop firing until I am out.

We don't know all the details. I still don't think I would convict of murder. something lower I can justify, but I don't see this as murder. The perpetrators actions nullify a murder charge in my mind. If they don't put themselves in that situation, they live. plain and simple. The guy went too far, just as Ersland did, but to call it murder is too much. fear and stress can make a person do things they normally would not.

I agree with you on this.
