Or get yourself a Rat Terrier. Great little dogs that love to kill gophers and rats. The hard part is taking the dead gopher away from them.

In the 25 years I've been trapping them in my yard, I've tried every "trick", type of trap, Voodoo, whatever I could find.
Don't fall for the chewing gum thing, the smoke bombs, etc. None of that works worth a crap.
I'm betting I've trapped around 200 with this: http://www.traplineproducts.com/files/QuickSiteImages/bodyrepeat.jpg

You can also pick up very similar traps at Tractor Supply. I've had great success with them...

We have about 2.5 acres and I got tired of raking down the mounds before mowing. They have all moved to my neighbor's yards now!

The Makinzie traps that Tractor supply sells, don't work as well. I tried them for a couple of years, and although they work ok, they eventually get rusty, and the triggers aren't as sensitive. The gophinator traps are made in the USA from stainless wire. They also sell some mole traps that are smaller versions of the gopher traps that are very effective as well.
Ace hardware stores sell a similar trap, but it has two trigger wires in their design. They work occasionally, but usually make the gopher trap smart.

Moles sometimes do make mounds but not nearly as many. They are more of a pyramid mound while the gophers make more of a horseshoe mound, at least this is how they are in my yard.

Don't waste money on store bought, fancy pants, citified gopher traps....embrace your redneckedness and build tiny little snares to trap 'em. Or if you want to go full blown Green Beret you grind a tiny little knife out of a larger knife then build a ghillie suit and wait for them to come out of the hole. Then you quietly come up behind them and silently slit their tiny throats with your tiny knife, then skin the gopher each time and when you've got them all....you use the hides to make a tiny hat.
