You guys need to pick up one of the DPMS G2's before you say big and heavy. They're pretty light; 7.25 pounds for the MOE/AP4. The SASS is lighter, but it's not as light as the others.

There are some excellent .308 AR's out there now in your price range. The newly released DPMS Gen II got very good grades by Field & Streams recent look at new rifles. The Ruger SR7.62 surprisingly did not fare well. The S&W M&P10 has been at the top of the "affordable" .308 AR's since it's release and is the one I want myself. Now if money was no object I would be all over a LaRue PredatOBR 7.62...those things are beyond awesome but the price is way out of my budget...still, sure wish I had one, maybe I can swap a kidney for one.

If you ordered it now then you would have 2 years or so to save up for it. They don't charge you until it ships. I have almost done that a few times.

I've owned FN-FAL's , M1-A's, and Armalite AR-10's. I didn't like any of the scope mountings options and accuracy of FN-FAL's. The M1-A's are hard on the brass and so-so accurate. My AR-10T is very accurate and reliable. Yes, a little heavy. I have two AR-10 M4's also.

What type of scope mounting on your FAL's? I have the A.R.M.S. FAL mounts and I like the much more than the DSArms mounts. Granted they are not potentially as accurate as an AR because of the tilting bolt design and that is why I thought I might try a .308 AR.

What length and weight barrel on your AR10T?

Ive had 2 gen 1 DPMS lr-308 rifles. heavy but accurate. I now have a Sig 716 and a Gen2 DPMS recon. I like the DPMS gen 2 a lot better because of the light weight. Other than a broke extractor on one of my earlier DPMS rifle ive never had any problems with them.

We're starting to load up on 308 parts. The Anderson upper/lower set with LPK will be $400, DPMS MK12 barrels for under $250, Mega barrels for $299, DPMS BCG $215, have some MWI rail systems in bound $200ish. You should be able to build a nice gun for under $1700.

That is very tempting, I would LOVE to have one (especially their "suitcase" model) but as expensive as they are it would take me way longer than two years to save enough :( . They are awesome rifles though. I would just love to have a M&P10 at this point, I don't really need one but I have a .22LR AR, 5.56, 6.5 Grendel and .50 Beowulf so I need a .308 to complete the collection.

I hate to be the one to point it out, but you have a glaring typo there with the exclusion of the 458 SOCOM ;)

Ha - I just saw that you commented on 458 a minute ago in a different thread. Guess you already ruled it out...
