I would only add that it is essential that whatever optic/sight you choose can be dialed back and forth from distance dope to your zero consistently.
Otherwise you will be chasing your impacts all over the place. Also, finding a bullet/barrel combination that works well at distance. Finally, practice while under stress, physical and mental.
In case your wondering, i am using an Aimpoint M4, unmagnified for everything out to 500.

What are everyones thoughts about running a 11.5" SBR'd AR in this? Think the 500yd stage will make it a no go? FYI Ive never gone past 50yds with it.

EK ran an SBR AK at the first event...and rang steel at 400. If you know your dope you can do it. Give it a whirl man!

If you choose not to carry water please let someone know ahead of time, so that your anatomical landmarks can be marked to make it easier for the Paramedics putting in your inevitable IJ line.

Or there's always this:

Not a no go, but it will be tougher no doubt... though that setup would excel for some of the other stages. If you know your muzzle velocity, bullet weight, ballistic coefficient, and sight-over-bore height, you can plug the numbers into one of the many free ballistic calculators online and get some very accurate dope. Most programs have some of the most common loads already in the system, so if you just give it a somewhat close muzzle velocity, it will give you a very accurate trajectory. Your best bet is to chrono it, or in a pinch just run some searches or post a thread on arfcom or m4c and see what other people with similar setups are getting for MV with whatever type of ammo you're using. Of course it's best to confirm your zero at actual distance, but remember we're talking about a full torso target... the elevation setting you get from a ballistic calculator will be good enough for a hit. Whether you have the skill to pull off slightly under 4 MOA from a field position with the possibility of wind is up to you!

Yeah, the EZ-IO or the BIG are the way to go. The EZ and BIG (Bone Injection Gun - Which would probably be my preference as a test subject or caregiver) are ideal for speed and ease of use. Even if the casualty's a double BTK amputee, the Fast-1 isn't the only option. Both the BIG and EZ-IO are approved for use in the humerus as an alternative. As far as the award for Most Medieval, the Fast-1 wins in a landslide.

That is how I figured it out initially. I used Hornady's calculator after getting my chrono data. It was spot on when I took that data to the field. My holdovers out to 300 yards are easy enough without dialing anything in, but at 400 and 500 it was just guessing. For my velocity and round I get about 94 inches of drop at 500.

I dont want any of them!

Ticks are bad this year. Again. It would behoove those of you coming out to find some permethrin and pre-treat your clothing and equipment. Bass Pro has it in a nice spray bottle in their camping section. The stuff really helps to ward away ticks unlike DEET-based products that do next to nothing.

Also, I again want to reiterate the importance of proper hydration in the days before the event and the day of.

Questions from a new run-n-gunner:
1. My 14-year-old wants to run with me and watch (naturally, he would not carry anything for me). Is that allowed?
2. English kanigit's comment about ticks prompts me to ask, do we have to crawl through brushy areas or woods, where we're likely to get ticks? If so I'll plan accordingly, as you suggested.

Thanks!
