Glad it went well...sorry I missed it. I've been to 'em all up until now.

My wife is planning to run it with me this summer. She's made it one of her "goals" for the year.

Al, and Daniel: thanks again for another fun and well run match. Number 1 Son and I had a great time. (if it turns out he beat me, though, I won't bring him next time.). :-)

Thanks also to Jon for hosting again. What a great place, and great people!

Well I went to sight in today....

I could not get my Garand to group. At 100 yards I was getting 6-8 inch groups. I know the gun can shoot, as I have shot groups about 1 inch at 100 with hand loaded hunting ammo. So I tried the same ammo in my 1903A4 clone thinking that if it shot ok out of there, I would at least be with the spirit of the Garand challenge. Still shot about 6 inch groups at 100. So I tried the AR just to see how it was with some reloads I had just put together. It shot ok with them out to about 200 yards (iron sights) so I guess that's the plan. I'm pretty bummed about it.

Well I ended up going with the Garand after all. I really didn't have enough ammo to do it any other way. I won't make excuses for my shooting other than just read what I posted yesterday. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, I got hits on all the targets except the very last one and the "one shot one kill". I just was not shooting well enough to get ALL the hits needed, I would have ran out of ammo. I was pretty happy with how well I walked the course, and the pace I kept.

My biggest takeaways are, I need to continue to get in better shape, I would have liked to have been able to jog parts of the course. As it was I just jogged away from the start and then set to walking. I know I need more trigger time behind iron sights, I have an AR set up with irons for that exact reason. I have wanted to get to an Appleseed for a couple years now, that desire just went way up. I have always known the Garand was an amazing rifle, and knew what OTHERS had done with it, today i got a small glimpse into what I could do with it. Again, not making excuses but if I had done the work before hand to have a good load and knew where it was hitting with confidence, I know what I could have done.

Thanks to all the guys who put this match together and helped run it. We are indeed fortunate to have the chance to shoot a match like this, in an area like that. Thanks to all the other competitors, as well. I had an absolute blast.

Great course and had a great time. I did not practice shooting left handed with the rifle or shooting offhand, kneeling, sitting and it got me. I ran out of bullets in the rifle on the last stage and did not get the last target so got a big 0 on that stage. I still got 9th overall in the 10k and ran at a good clip for me. My run time was 1:03 and some seconds. I will prepare better next time. Thanks Al and Daniel!

A big thanks to Daniel, Al, the landowners, RO's, ladies working the computers and serving soup, and the competitors. I had a wonderful time competing and socializing. I learned about my weaknesses, but I also surprised myself. Some stages were very challenging, and I had no idea if I could finish them. When I did, I felt great! I will be making some changes to my gear, but will probably use the M1 again next time. Hope to see all of you there!

Btw, how did you get your scores? I have not seen them posted on the web page.

Thanks to everybody who came out for making it the best Run 'n Gun yet! I sure enjoyed running the course with my M1, and having my whole family and so many of my good friends there helping out. I would be interested to hear your experiences, comments, and any suggestions or requests for future events. Mark your calendars for the Pawnee Summer Run 'n Gun on July 18, 2015. Tickets will go on sale soon.
