Considering trading for a 38 super, for a fun gun. The thing is I haven't ever seen any 38 super ammo for sale, locally or online. I'm sure it's out there I just have to find it. Pro's and Con's of the 38 super? I think it's going to end up being more of a novelty than anything else, but I've been told I'm a novel guy before.. any thought ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Its real easy to look across the stacks of ammo and not see 38 super, it looks a Lot like 38 special(in the box)
I had an 80 series colt 1911 in 38 super, shot great
I don't know the ballistics on it, just that it shot kinda soft, fairly accurate(me)
I felt it was a reloaders gun, and I don't yet, so I let it go to someone that did
...38spr.....38spl........Good Luck

There is no con's, ammo is not that hard to find and contrary to what you will hear not what I would consider expensive. You can pick up target ammo for around $20 a box for 50. H&H sales it for I think $21. You call it a novelty, but it is an Outstanding SD round. You are getting into the class of a 357 mag as far as power (Les Baer's words not mine) with out the recoil. I carried a 1955 LW Commander for several years. IMHO one of the best rounds out there, and very accurate.

This is spot on.... except in Tulsa it's not easy to find or decently priced in bulk. You can find good deals online though. Only place that has a somewhat decent amount of it that I've seen is Dongs.

I've never had one but have heard a lot of good things about the round, especially if you load your own you can get it close to .357 level. Competitive shooters started using it years ago because of the extra mag capacity and could still make major caliber. I thought about getting one but opted for a 10mm instead.

The 38 super is a great round. I have a soft spot for Colt lightweight Commanders in 38 super and 9mm. Ammo is out there on the web. Decently priced. I would say go for it!

So can one shoot the 9mm out of the 38 super, kinda along the same lines as the 40 outta the 10mm and the 38 outta the 357?? haven't tried but the question popped into mind watching the video GMThunder linked above..

I've read of guys doing it, but personally I'd just go with a barrel swap. You could fit a 9x23 barrel to it also, if you like it really hot.
