I have several handguns that I carry on a rotating basis, depending on mood and weather conditions (SA revolver, DA revolver, striker fire, and SA auto.) My question is this for those who carry different styles from time to time: Does anyone else get a preference or affinity for one or the other and find it hard to switch to another for sake of condition? For example, I have been carrying my 1911 for the last month and a half, and although I have better options for concealment on our upcoming vacation, I still feel like I want to carry 1911 goodness instead of the Glock 34 or 43 I have. Am I alone in this, or is the struggle real in others?

And just for fun, since I like opinions, there is a poll.

Understand your dilemma perfectly. I have the following in my carry rotation: Glock 17, S&W Model 60 3" and a S&W Shield 9mm. I prefer the Shield more than any of the others as it conceals well AIWB. For capacity the Glock and in really wet/snowy/rainy weather the Model 60 as it is stainless and resists the elements wonderfully.

My carry options are a Gen 4 Glock 19, Glock 43, Ruger SR1911 LW Commander in 9mm, and a Kimber Micro .380. The Glock 43 gets the most time on my hip; the 1911 is next, the G19 pulls a lot of nightstand duty in summer months and will ride along under a cover garment in cool or cold weather while the G43 takes a break. The little baby Kimber goes in my pocket when nothing else can go along...which is not too often.

I usually carry a S&W wheel gun. The Model 65 in my avatar is one that I have had for just about 25 years, and I rarely carry anything else other than an L-frame.

I'm a creature of habit. I carry the same gun every time and put a lot of rounds through it.
I want to know my controls under pressure, and not be fumbling around trying to find a safety when it doesn't exist. I want to know when that trigger is about to break, and the sight picture that's the same every time.

I carried a SW 442 off and on for a few years but never learned to like it and sold it. I really like 1911s, so I acquired a Dan Wesson CCO, but I've not carried it a single time because I've never trained with it.

I always return to my least favorite gun to shoot (of the other guns I have or have shot) a Glock 19 that was my first carry gun. Although I sometimes carry a Sig P938 that I like a lot, the G19 is still #1 for carry because it's what I've trained with and wins out in the compromises that we all must make to carry.

I'm guilty of the "rotating order" myself, but more and more I'm going with SA auto. I just can't love the polymer striker fired guns, even though I've owned several and they've all been pretty good to damn good. I do still have an XDS for when I absolutely feel the need to go under the radar, but most of the time, it sits in the medicine cabinet for emergency situations.

I generally carry a 1911, either my Ruger LW 9mm Commander or my new to me Smith E series Scandium framed bob tail (also Commander length). If not one of those, my Hi Power clone will be on my hip. I'm used to the manual of arms on SA autos, and I tend to shoot them better (especially the 1911s).

I can't answer the poll, because while I do carry a 1911, "Kimber" is not on my list.

Shot many CQC rooms with my Beretta M9s in training over the years of active duty. Always had a lot of fun doing the training, feel as though it was generally well thought out and executed. First time I was forced to put that training to use in a real life situation, the gun was discharged into the target not more than 4 feet to my right. No time to get a sight picture and was fired from mid chest into the Adversary. Had many other situations over the years in confined spaces with the trusty M9, never, that I recall did a sight picture ever occur. Used a Crimson Trace for the last three deployments, great piece of kit and certainly worth it's weight in gold. My wife Jen, practices the mid chest hold as well. I have confidence that should the need arise, her crimson trace grips and a good solid carry will allow her to maintain control of the weapon and engage the target if necessary. She trains with a Beretta 92FS (thank you @Pokinfun) as a bedside gun and carries a G42 AIWB when out and about. Training is the key and not everyone does it. Sorry for the ramble, pain meds from the tooth extraction ya know.
