We are headed to Oahu in a couple of weeks. We tend to stay on the upper side of the island, I didn't find anything appealing about Honolulu except for Pearl Harbor.

Waikiki beach was a zoo, Duke's for fish tacos was good though.

I love zoos! The Hale Koa is a base of operations. We’ll go to the north shore for sure; make sure to get a shave ice at Matsumoto’s in Haleiwa.

If I want a really laid back thing; Mama’s Fish House in Maui is the place.

But this trip is to play the obnoxious tourist role; we’ll have fun; hope you do too.

Hope you got good airfare.

I recently purchased 3 RT tickets to Rome for less than $600 each, taxes, fees, baggage and all. It was amazing to me when researching that flying onward to Rome was cheaper than RT tickets to some of the connecting cities. lol. Airfare is screwy, for sure.

We had a really bad experience in Rome during our single day there 13 years ago (we only made it to ONE landmark), and only a single night in Venice, as well. This time, we're going to spend 8 days between the two. Can't wait!

Beautiful city; Rome. Venice too. Just be careful of the water, I suspect what you brush your teeth with might be the same thing that floats the boats.

Joel, I talked to Mary. There seems to be a change of plans. I'm going with Mary, your staying with Darlene. Don't worry, I bought you two 1 way tickets to the Sierra Desert since you both hate the cold. I need to get with you so you can put me on your credit card account, I mean after all I am doing you a favor. Just let me know when's a good time for you. See ya soon Buddy, gotta go so I can work on my tan.

Change 2. Darlene just informed me she and Mary are going to Hawaii and you and I are staying here. We don't even get to go to the Sierra. Oh, and she definitely needs to get on your credit card account.

+20 Bazillion on extra time. We went to Yellowstone back in 2002 and I suggested just a couple of days there and do some extra sightseeing along elsewhere. Inlaws talked me out of that idea and we spent 5 days in Yellowstone and saw "almost" all the main attractions. Didn't get to any of the hikes, so if we ever go back, I would plan on at least 2 weeks.

Some of the other places we've been, I'd also say that extra time is needed.

Will do, we are going for a wedding, it will be in the Hauulu area, oddly at the Hale Koa Estate, we are staying in a house up closer to the Turtle Bay area.

We stayed in one of the places on the coast at Turtle Bay the last time we were there, it was pretty amazing.

Been there several times, the restaurant-Koco's cafe used to have a breakfast, lunch and supper meal but no more, only supper. The cost of Koco's is far more reasonable than outside venues where a hamburger can cost up to $13.00 without fries or drink. The meals at Koco's cost around $12 each and the big thing there is the Sunday Buffet where I believe it costs $28 per plate. Actually, once you're at the Hale Koa there is no need to go anywhere else because everything is there, food, PX, pools, beach, laundry, car rental, ITT Tours etc.
I wouldn't take a limo from the airport when a shared shuttle can be had for $5-in fact many simply take a city bus for $2 (used to be $1). A lot of people don't even rent a car, they take the bus and you can ride it around the entire island-Dole Plantation, North Shore, Hickam AFB etc. Hickam is where the wife an I usually purchase trinkets to give kids back home and if you want, you can go to Alohoa Stadium on The Bus (That's the real name) and buy T-Shirts for maybe 6 for $20-good gifts. But like I said, you don't even have to leave the hotel, all the trinkets one would want can be bought at the PX there as well as some high dollar jewelry if you want to impress someone special. One thing, the Luau at the Hale Koa-get there fairly early so some turkey doesn't save all the good seats-they do have some good shows there with buffets of all you can eat should you have an urge to gain weight.
You'll probably find the city of Honolulu crowded with cars, noxious fumes from all the vehicles etc and ladies in bikinis walking on the city streets. There is an Army museum (Ft De Russey) nearby that you can walk to and they have all the uniforms, guns, and Army stuff one would want to see all for free and it takes about an hour to see everything.
