I can give a thumbs up vote for the Ruger 22/45. Leighton is right they are not near as "ammo sensitive" and they are very affordable (less than $300, new).

Can someone tell me where the mag release is on the model 41?

The mag release is just behind the trigger on the left side of the frame, just like a 1911.
