It would help to have more info .

How old is it ? Serial number/ letters & numbers are easy to trace age on Marlins

Does it have a cross bolt safety ??

What kind of shape is the stock in ?

I recently bought a "J " s/n 1952 model in great shape for $400. and felt good about it

If you post sn I can help with age

First off, is it an "A" (regular), or one of the specialties - "M", "TDS", or other? It's probably an "A". Next, what's the serial # and I'll look it up. Generally the older the more valuable, but the new ones hold excellent value as well. Next, most importantly, as always, condition is king. Finally, do you want appraisal, as in "for insurance" (high), or to actually sell, but hold out until you get the buyer you want, over a period of months (medium), or must sell fairly quickly (low).

Also, If it's a TDS, I want it.... they're worth essentially nothing. :P :D

The gun is a model 39, not an A, or M or a TDS. In 1946 the Marlin Firearm Co lost their records to a fire. I have the letter information regarding the date of manufacture. The gun has a serial number below 10,000 with no letter. The model 39's were manufactured between 1922 and 1942. I suspect that the date of manufacture is between 1922 and 1924. The gun is in very good condition to excellant for its age. No rust or pitting just a nice patina. The wood is in fine shape with no nicks, dings or gouges just a little handling wear. The gun is NOT for sale. I talked to the factory today.

Sounds like you have a dandy ..keep her safe .I have read it is best to use standard velocity ammo in rifles such as yours

I had mine out today despite the wind , I had the steel pigs and turkeys dancing . Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Leadlobber- I grew up with this gun. My Dad bought it when he was young. I have put thousands of rounds thru it and it still is deadly. I just use standard ammo in it. No stingers or minimags. Normally Remington gold bullets or some Winchester ammo. It eats it all and is very accurate. I asked my Dad long before he died if I could have his gun to remember him by. So I inherited it and I occasionaly take it out and shoot it. My son already knows that he will inherit it and pass it to his son. Marlin IMO makes one of the best .22's on the market. You just can not beat that micro groove barrel. I have a 10-22 and a nylon 66 and they are great but gimme a .22 lever or my .22mag ss bolt Marlin and I be happy.
