There is many diffrent opioons on it. Most people do it for the looks. But there are benifits. For me personally the reduction of reduces muzzle flip while letting the gun cycle faster.

I would think that the removal of weight would increase muzzle flip. How does that work?
In my limited experience it seems like having less mass coming to a complete stop and reversing directions when the slide reaches its most rearward position seems to help flip. Shooting my G23 gen 3 against my friends G22 gen 4, mines seems to have less flip.
I definitely like more mass on my slide, not less.
I like it the other way around personally.
I like that these companys spend thousands for an engeneer to come up with these designs so that folks can cut holes in them. Allow garbage additional routes into the firearms and change the relationship of mass and dwell times.
