    Default Arisaka Japanese rifle value???

I need to know the value on this Jap rifle. this belonged to my stepdad (35 years ago) and he had a gunsmith cut down the barrel and bend the bolt.

I do not even know if it is a 7.7 or 6.5 Arisaka.....Thanks

Has the Mum been scrubbed on top?
It's hard to tell from your picture.
Looks to be a type 99 which would be 7.7 jap caliber.
The fact that it has been sportirzed won't help the value of this particular rifle.
I've got one that's wood has been chop down. It's actually a real good shooter.

My guess on value would put it in the $125-$175 range.
I personally think they are better rifles than that.
But what I've seen is when sporterized the values goes down pretty severe.
Guns in original configuration with the mum in place and crisp and everything else in real good shape bring $250-$400.
If you can find someone who reloads that wants one as a shooter you can probably get a higher value. Mine shoots extremely well with my reloads, and pretty darn good with factory.
I recently saw a beater go for $50.

I will probably just keep it. I took it to a gunshow awhile back.Everybody said the value (after sporterizing ) really reduced the value.

Thanks again guys for your help.
