I have not done well this rifle season and today about 8:10 I shot me a nice buck. Nothing too great to brag about but I am very thankful for him, even with a broke antler on one side. I shot him and knew it was a solid hit but he ran into the woods. Then I was waiting a few minutes to make sure he died and thought I would pay some bills on my phone. I look up after logging into the bank and I have a freaking monster walking towards me and at an angle. He ended up about 30 yards walking a slight diagonal away from me. He then stopped in what would have been a perfect shot. He even grunted twice which is the first time I ever heard one do that in the wild. Easily the nicest buck I have ever seen, perfect typical ten point. Too bad he wasn't ten minutes earlier but was good to see and hopefully he is around next season. That is my story for this season and while a great buck was seen, the other that I shot will work just fine. He would have been nice, a bird in the hand is the way I look at it. Now, off to ducks and geese full time.
