Did they check the child for GSR ? Things that make me go hmmmmm .

Maybe a detective or crime scene person can chime in, but my understanding is that do not perform this test anymore. There were too many anomalies and they were testing positive for other items. My limited unstanding is that they are no loner admissible in court, so they are no longer attempted in the field. Could be wrong though.

Tragic incident, nonetheless!

GSR in this case would've probably been a valid test. With GSR, there are certain criteria that have to be met before a sample will be taken. There is no inadmissibility as far as the courts are concerned, but there are issues where results could be negative with a person firing a gun. Or a sample could be positive if a person handled a gun or was close when the gun was fired. Time lapse since firing and actions taken by the person needing tested could negate the validity of a GSR test.
