Is that 2430 FPS ok for my 1898 Krag? I think I read the Army had issues with cracked locking lugs after changing the specs & had to return to the 2000FPS loads.

That's a good question. According to Wikipedia, the original military loading was for 2000 feet per second but with a 220 grain bullet. The Hornady loading is for 2400 feet per second but with a 180 grain bullet.

Internet search says that the Hornady ammo is safe in old Krags.

I’ve used the Core Lokt 180 gr in the past. Looks like the same specs. Never had an issue, but havnt put a whole lot thru it either. Krags have the smoothest action ever.
