I have never hunted WITH A REVOLVER. Does anyone have any have any tips regarding bullet weight, penetration, or just plain effectiveness??

I just bought a NEW S&W model 29 from H&H today, I love it. It just drips quality. Accuracy isn't too shabby either, hitting the blue guys torso at max distance(30 yards). i also bought some federal 280grain rounds. best stuff they had in stock.

Years ago I acquired a new Ruger Redhawk w/Leupold scope when they were first introduced. I crafted handloads using 180 grain jacketed soft point w/2400 powder and CCI magnum primers.

About 10 AM opening day a five point buck strolled by about 10 yards from my tree stand.

The bullet passed through both sides and didn't expand a bit.

The whitetail is too thinned skinned to open up a 44 cal bullet, so concentrate on shot placement.

Shot placement will not be a problem.
Practice Practice Practice.
Thank you sir.

My favorite .44 hunting load is a Winchester 250gr Partition Gold. Those Nosler Partition bullets are great for penetration, expansion and weight retention.

I have shot deer with 44 and 357. Used hornady revolution and the deer dropped where it stood. Also shot a black bear last year in Minnesota and he too dropped

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried the Buffalo Bore ammo on deer? I've used it on hogs and was pleased with the effectiveness but after reading some of these posts I'm wondering how it will perform on thinner skinned game.

I will also be using a 4 inch barrel.
I know longer barrels have more potential for accuracy, but that doesn't mean much.
If Im shooting a 4 how some others are shooting a 6.5 or 8. I don't see a problem.
Who wants a revolver as long as your leg. Might as well use a rifle.

Has any used the federal premium 280 grain SWIFT A-frame round?
