the '40's had light skinned armored vehicles, that stuff should cut through them like butter. I asked this same question for the ap '06 ammo.

It's my understanding that heavy ball (180-185 gr) is machine gun/PKM ammo while 147 gr is rifle ammo. Of course, a Mosin will handle both.

Thanks appreciate the imput, just got the can open the other day and started wondering

Do you know the what country the ammo is from? Ive got silver tip from both Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. Im no self proclaimed expert but i dont beleive silver tip means anything special other than at that time in production thats how that country identified there ammo. The Russians have 762X54 ammo that all looks the same. The packaging is the only way to tell the differance.

Ive seen heavier grained ammo with a yellow tip i beleive from Hungaria. Plus most Commie ammo has steel in it.
