Taurus handguns are bashed almost for sport,,, In every forum I have ever participated in. And in my humble opinion their revolvers often deserve it,,, But please notice I said "often deserve it". The problem with Taurus revolvers is not in bad design,,, It's in terrible quality control from the factory. If you get a good one out of the box,,, It will probably last for years and perform very well. But if you get one that slipped past their quality control,,, It will probably never be fixed properly,,, Despite their lifetime warranty. Several years back I purchased a 6" 970 Tracker in .22 LR,,, I didn't inspect that particular gun well enough,,, The cylinder would not lock up at all,,, It just spun freely. 1st trip to their warranty center fixed that problem,,, But there was literally no cylinder gap,,, It scraped against the forcing cone. 2nd trip to their warranty center fixed the gap problem,,, But now the barrel was skewed enough that you could see it. 3rd trip back and I told them I wanted a new gun,,, They refused and sent the same one back,,, The cylinder gap seemed to be fixed,,, And the barrel was now straight,,, But they scratched the frame. I had also purchased a 4" 990 Tracker in that same month,,, Something broke after about 1,000 or so rounds,,, They fixed it but now the trigger was terrible,,, I sent it back and they did nothing to it,,, They said the trigger was fine. A couple of years ago a friend needed some quick cash,,, So I bought his 5" Model 94 for $150.00,,, That pistol was and is a great gun. It's so good that I made a nice rig for it,,, And gifted it to a new graduate. In this case I happened to luck into a great little shooter. This is what Taurus devotees don't understand,,, They happened to get a good one right out of the box,,, So they think all Taurus pistols are good because their pistol was a good one Here's my point,,, Buy a Taurus revolver only after you have inspected it very carefully. One that leaves the plant with no defects will work for a long time,,, But if you get one that left the factory with defects in materials or workmanship,,, Your chances of it ever being fixed and returned to you in perfect working order are slim to none. The way I look at it,,, There is nothing special enough about their designs,,, To make me ever spend my hard earned cash on a hit-or-miss proposition. Their crappy quality control makes buying a Taurus revolver a crap shoot. Buy a Ruger SP-101,,, Or a Smith & Wesson 617,,, Or a used Smith & Wesson Model 17 or 18. You will be much happier in the long run. Aarond .
