Saiga. 400 for the rifle and you can do the conversion for 100 bucks. Of course you can spend a lot more for the conversion but a guy on Saiga12.com posted his parts list for conversion and it was about 86 bucks.

A Thousand dollar AK will never outshoot a Thousand Dollar AR.

However, A 450 dollar AK can often outshoot a Thousand dollar AK.

I have a Yugo AK, a Norinco AK and a WASR 10/63. I paid quite a bit more for the Yugo and the Norinco, but the WASR is more accurate. The fit and finish on the WASR is not as nice, but it has gone "bang" the 2500+ times I have pulled the trigger. It will shoot "minute of dinner plate" out to 250 yards which is just fine for an AK.

For 4-5 hundred bucks, I would say just buy a WASR. Spend the money "saved" by buying the cheaper gun and just buy as much ammo as you can. They are a lot of fun.
