Anyone bought one of those $399 Mauser K98's in American Rifleman magazines?

If so can someone comment on the quality of these things, and how they shoot?

They are cleaned up Russian capture rifles. The one I saw had the original numbers ground off and new matching number forced match. The stock still had an area where the Russians took a grinder and dished out the Nazi markings and replaced it with Soviet numbers, and the reblue was less than good looking. Look for a Russian capture and you can clean it up yourself and get a case of ammo for the difference in price. Oh yeh, the accessories are mostly Yugo or Russian and can be picked up for real cheap. The bayonet that is pictured is a Yugo, while it will work isn't correct unless it was a partisan carrying it.

If it's from Mitchell, you can do better. Lots better, since they are pretty much focused on cosmetics. I haven't noticed the ad, but the SGN ads appear to be getting pretty thin.

Might be a good idea to wait and check the big Tulsa show this fall, especially for individual sellers. CB

The Mitchell Mausers are notoriously bad!

this....

the mitchells are basically cleaned up russian captures, they also call yugo M48's "german" yugo m48 is intermediate length action, not the same thing as a k98.

its the same as someone taking a rusted, beat up mismatched 65 mustang, cleaning up the outside and saying its new

the quality is good because its german workmanship and the accuracy can vary, depends on how the bore condition is
