You just can not make this stuff up!

Scientists plan to reduce greenhouse gases by breeding fartless cows.

Natural gas wells leak methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere as a consequence of the production process. So do cows. But where well leaks are called “fugitive methane emissions,” cow leaks are simply called farts and burps.

Regular Grist readers will remember that we’re really quite interested in this unusual source of methane. It’s silly, but it’s also a big problem. Scientists now think, though, that they’ve hit on a solution: They might simply be able to breed to farts and burps out of cows.

Somebody probably got a multi-million dollar grant from the government just to study that.

It is actually an extrapolation of the theory published a few years back. A group of 'scientists' theorized that the last ice age was caused by the flatulence of the dinosaurs. A result of their eating of dead, decaying dinosaurs.

Of course, this theory was disputed by another group whose theory was the demise of the dino was caused from starvation because of their flatulence which prevented them being able to sneak up on prey.

and these are supposed to be our brightest minds?????????????? :fart:

Here, but occasionally There.
Just feed them GRASS, their natural food not CORN, which they have problems digesting.

Well, the only problem with that theory is that even on grass, cattle produce methane gas. If you ever wish to doubt me, become a cowboy and ride drag.

Been there....done that!!!!

True, but they create MORE gas on corn which is harder to digest and then ferments. Read somewhere, a few years back, Rolaids sells 70% of it's product to cattle feed companies and 30% to humans.
