Yes, Carolyn McCarthy is the Shoulder-thingie that goes up lady. You'd think the Dems would prevent her from speaking about guns (or anything) after looking like such an idiot last time.
McCarthy and many other national figures are "the blind leading the blind." A very large percentage of the country believes that AR's are machine guns. The more that can be done to educate people about the difference between AR's and full auto or select fire weapons, the better. The info is out there for anyone who wants to learn but most do not have the interest. It is emotionally satisfying to blame the easy availability of "machine guns."
In discussing this with one friend, I explained the difference and he was somewhat unbelieving that 20 kids at Sandy Hook could have been killed with a semi-automatic rifle - "it must have been a machine gun." He now understands that it was very possible because they were huddled in the corner of the room. He also now understands that a shotgun would have been just as devastating. Keep talking to people.
