What loads were you using that made for a snappy recoil? I'm guessing either 38 Special + loads or 357?

All .357 mag loads are going to be stout in that gun. These are made to carry a lot and shoot little, they make a great backpacking gun. For range fun you are going to want .38s because the fun wears off quick with full house magnums.

Correct. I was asking because I'd have been surprised if it had been standard .38 rounds that caused the snappy feel. I had a 325 NG chambered in .45 ACP, and standard 230-grain loads weren't bad at all.
