I think 5rd AR mags are just 10 round mags with a 5 round restrictive plate in it. If you have to have a 5 round mag, you could buy a 10 round pmag from academy or cabelas and drop their 5 round restrictor into it. Kind of a waste of money unless you’re using it to hunt in another state that requires a 5 round or less capacity though.

Rifles: Centerfire rifles firing at least a 55-grain weight soft-nosed or hollow-point bullet. There is no restriction on magazine capacity regardless of caliber.

I use a 5/10 rounder in my large gas guns because they’re short and my gun lays flatter instead of pivoting on a mag.

Last time I bough a 5 round AR 15 or 10 mag was at cabelas. They are not cheap compared to the 20 round mags. needed it for deer hunting

Not anymore. Like @SiGArmed posted a link to, for big game it’s just gotta be at least 55gr and not FMJ. You could have a 75 round drum hanging off the bottom of the rifle if you wanted. I like having a 10 rounder for the same reasons @JEVapa said.

I bought a couple of 10-rnd 223/556 mags, a couple of years ago, at Academy. I have not looked for them recently. They may still stock them.
